Game Summary

Jor Kadeen opened with mana development into Lightning Greaves and Elspeth, Knight-Errant, producing two Soldier tokens. Alaundo began with Sol Ring and Sylvan Library, using the Library aggressively to find an Island and assemble Retreat to Coralhelm, Seeker of Skybreak, Alaundo the Seer, and Magewright’s Stone. That setup cost ChatGPT considerable life, but it put several independent Alaundo untaps onto the battlefield.

On Turn 5, Gavvin used Disenchant on Sylvan Library, then cast Impending Disaster. With seven lands on the battlefield, the Disaster threatened to destroy them during Jor Kadeen’s next upkeep. Alaundo therefore began processing the accumulated hand immediately rather than waiting for a safer turn.

The engine started with Aeon Chronicler, whose time-counter triggers supplied additional cards during later Alaundo activations. Seeker of Skybreak, Magewright’s Stone, Minamo, School at Water’s Edge, Aphetto Alchemist, Kiora’s Follower, Pemmin’s Aura, and landfall triggers from Retreat to Coralhelm repeatedly untapped Alaundo. Those activations advanced Kozilek, the Great Distortion, Pathrazer of Ulamog, and other suspended cards while casting the untap pieces and ramp spells that kept the turn moving.

The decisive reset was Dramatic Reversal. Alaundo suspended it, counted it down, and cast it for free, untapping Alaundo and nearly the entire nonland engine. At that point ten Alaundo activations had resolved, with at least six more already available from the untapped board. Kozilek was two counters from entering and refilling the hand, while Kodama’s Reach, Conduit of Ruin, and Pathrazer continued advancing. Gavvin scooped rather than require the sprawling—but still non-deterministic—turn to be played through further.

Key Moments

• ChatGPT kept a color-awkward opening hand because it contained Sol Ring and Sylvan Library, trusting the Library to find blue mana.
• Sylvan Library found the needed Island and several engine cards. ChatGPT paid 12 life across two turns to retain additional cards and accelerate the setup.
• Gavvin’s Disenchant destroyed Sylvan Library, but Retreat to Coralhelm remained. Library had already supplied the cards; Retreat subsequently supplied several critical untaps.
• Impending Disaster created an immediate deadline. Passing the turn risked losing every land, so ChatGPT committed to the Alaundo engine on Turn 5.
• Aeon Chronicler was suspended first and converted later Alaundo activations into additional draws, including Minamo, School at Water’s Edge, Nature’s Lore, and Inevitable Betrayal.
• ChatGPT suspended Aphetto Alchemist and Kiora’s Follower, then advanced and cast them during the same turn. Because Alaundo granted them haste, each became another immediate activation.
• Nature’s Lore found an untapped Breeding Pool. Its entry triggered Retreat to Coralhelm, producing another Alaundo untap.
• Suspending Dramatic Reversal instead of merely holding it allowed later activations to cast it for free and reset all the nonland untap machinery.
• The recorded “16+ activations” represents ten resolved activations plus at least six already loaded from Alaundo and the available untappers when Gavvin conceded.
• The position was escalating toward Kozilek, the Great Distortion, which was only two activations from being cast and would refill ChatGPT’s hand to seven.

Game Context

This was not a deterministic combo. ChatGPT could not demonstrate a fixed loop and declare the game won; every activation required another card draw, an exile decision, time-counter bookkeeping, and a choice about how to generate the next untap. The engine could theoretically have run out of useful material.

The scoop was nevertheless reasonable. Dramatic Reversal had reset the machinery, six additional activations were already available without relying on future draws, and those activations would release Kozilek and then Kodama’s Reach. The line was not mathematically certain, but Jor Kadeen had no remaining interaction and the position was becoming more favorable to Alaundo with every activation.

The final turn also required several live rules and bookkeeping corrections involving mana payments, Minamo’s activation cost, Retreat to Coralhelm’s untap target, Ancient Tomb life loss, and suspended time counters. Those corrections did not reverse the engine’s direction, but they demonstrate the practical difficulty of piloting Alaundo: the deck does not simply reveal a loop. It forces the pilot to navigate the damned machine while it is running.
